Keyhole’s Social Listening gives you a powerful way to monitor conversations, trends, and sentiment across social media, blogs, news sites, and forums. But what you can track—and whether you need to authenticate or add accounts to your Watchlist—depends on the platform.

This guide breaks down what’s supported on X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, news, blogs, and forums, including:

  • What’s available by default

  • What requires a Watchlist or authentication

  • How far back you can pull data (backfill)

  • Platform-specific limitations and capabilities

We’ve organized everything in a consistent format so you can quickly compare platforms and get more out of Keyhole’s Social Listening.

X/Twitter Listening

With Keyhole’s Social Listening, you can track real-time conversations on X, including keywords, hashtags, mentions, and account activity.

You’ll get access to full post content, engagement metrics, sentiment analysis, and historical data, all from public posts or tracked accounts.

To track individual users, simply add them to your Account Watchlist and specify the account in your tracker.

What else do you need to know about X?

X offers one of the most open and flexible social listening experiences in Keyhole—but there are still a few important things to keep in mind.

With X Listening, you can:

  • Track public conversations in real time — no authentication needed.

  • Capture posts from specific users by adding their handles to your Account Watchlist.

  • Access historical data going back as far as 2015 (by request).

  • Analyze sentiment, reach, impressions, and engagement on all public posts using your tracked terms.

But:

  • Private accounts and protected tweets can’t be tracked.

  • Mentions and replies are only included if they match your tracked keywords or accounts.

For full visibility, refine your search terms, apply filters, and add high-priority accounts to your Watchlist. That way, your tracker captures everything that matters—and nothing that doesn’t.

Instagram Listening

Due to Meta’s API restrictions, third-party tools like Keyhole cannot track general keywords across all public Instagram posts.

However, you can:

  • Track hashtags across public posts without authentication.

  • Track keywords and @mentions from accounts you add to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics and specify in your tracker settings.

Instagram enforces strict hashtag limits: each authenticated Business or Creator account can track up to 30 hashtags within a rolling 7-day window. If you remove a hashtag, its slot remains occupied for 7 days before it frees up.

To increase your hashtag capacity, you can authenticate additional accounts.

What else do you need to know about Instagram?

Instagram’s API includes important restrictions that impact what you can track—and how you set up your trackers.

With Instagram Listening, you can:

  • Track public hashtags across Instagram.

  • Track keywords and @mentions from accounts you add to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

  • See usernames, follower count, reach, and impressions for accounts added to your Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

  • Track up to 30 hashtags per authenticated account every 7 days—and increase hashtag capacity by adding more accounts.

But:

  • You can’t track general keywords or @mentions across all public posts—only hashtags.

  • To track keywords or @mentions, you must add the account to your Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

  • Private accounts can’t be tracked—their content won’t appear in search results or social listening tools.

To get full value, focus on selecting the right accounts for your Watchlist and managing your hashtag slots carefully.

TikTok Listening

Keyhole’s Social Listening tracks TikTok posts that include your specified hashtags, keywords, phrases, or @mentions. Tracking is limited to public accounts that meet TikTok’s engagement criteria—such as having an active following, consistent interactions, and regular viewer watch time.

You can also monitor posts from specific accounts by adding them to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

What else do you need to know about TikTok?

TikTok’s API has unique limitations, so it’s important to set up your tracker carefully.

With TikTok Listening, you can:

  • Track public posts using hashtags, keywords, phrases, or @mentions.

  • Monitor specific influencers or brands by adding them to your Account Watchlist.

  • Access post-level metrics like views, likes, comments, shares, and engagement rate.

  • View usernames and post content for all collected posts.

But:

  • TikTok only collects posts from public accounts that meet engagement eligibility criteria (active followers, regular interactions, consistent viewer watch time).

  • Historical backfill is not supported—data is only available from the last 24 hours when your tracker is created.

  • Each tracker pulls a sample of up to 90 posts every 6 hours, which means high-volume or low-engagement topics may miss some posts.

  • Some metrics (like views or engagement rate) may only appear once TikTok refreshes and the account meets eligibility criteria.

To get the most out of TikTok Listening, focus on tracking high-engagement accounts and specifying accounts from your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics—so you maximize coverage despite TikTok’s engagement criteria.

Facebook Listening

Keyhole’s Social Listening tracks posts from specified public Facebook Pages that you add to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

You can monitor posts that include your tracked hashtags, keywords, or phrases, and access metrics like engagement, reach, impressions, and sentiment.

Tracking is limited to the Pages you specify—Keyhole cannot monitor personal profiles, private groups, or scan all public posts for general keywords.

Authentication of at least one Facebook account is required to track posts from specified Pages.

What else do you need to know about Facebook?

Facebook Listening works differently from other platforms—and setup matters.

With Facebook Listening, you can:

  • Track public posts from specified Facebook Pages you add to your Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

  • Monitor hashtags and keywords used by those Pages.

  • See post-level metrics like likes, comments, shares, and reach for tracked Pages.

But:

  • General keyword tracking across all public posts isn’t supported.

  • You can’t track posts from personal profiles, private groups, or public Pages you haven’t specified.

  • You must authenticate at least one Facebook account—your own or an influencer’s—to enable Facebook Listening.

To get the most out of Facebook Listening, focus on specifying Pages most relevant to your brand or campaign.

YouTube Listening

Keyhole’s Social Listening tracks public YouTube posts and video metrics from specified channels that you add to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

You can monitor videos that mention your tracked keywords, hashtags, or phrases and capture key metrics like views, likes, comments, reach, and impressions.

Tracking is limited to the channels you specify—broad keyword scanning across all of YouTube is not supported.

What else do you need to know about YouTube?

YouTube Listening gives you visibility into specific channels—but it’s not full platform monitoring.

With YouTube Listening, you can:

  • Track videos from channels you specify, including views, likes, comments, and engagement metrics.

  • Surface top-performing content around your tracked keywords or hashtags.

  • Monitor priority channels by adding them to your Account Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

But:

  • You can’t track keywords across all of YouTube—only from channels you've specified.

  • Posts, views, and engagement metrics are only captured from channels in your Watchlist or Profile Analytics.

  • Channels must be public to be tracked.

For the best results, focus on tracking the channels most relevant to your brand, industry, or campaigns.

News, Blogs, and Forums

Keyhole’s Social Listening tracks mentions, keywords, and phrases across publicly available news articles, blog posts, and forum discussions.

You can monitor public content using specific keywords or phrases and capture metrics like sentiment, related topics, and top websites.

Tracking is limited to publicly available sources—private sites, paywalled articles, or subscription-based content cannot be captured. Data availability may vary depending on the source and regional policies.

What else do you need to know about News, Blogs, and Forums?

Keyhole lets you extend your listening beyond social media—capturing conversations across news sites, blogs, and public forums.

With News, Blogs, and Forums Listening, you can:

  • Monitor articles, blog posts, and forum discussions that mention your keywords.

  • Track domain authority (Domain Rank) to assess the credibility of sources.

  • Analyze sentiment trends across written content, not just social media.

  • Identify the websites and platforms driving the most mentions.

But:

  • Private, paywalled, and subscription-based content cannot be tracked.

  • Data availability varies depending on the source and regional access.

  • Country information is only available when provided by the source.

To get the most value, focus your trackers on high-authority news outlets, major blogs, and active forums where your audience or industry discussions are happening.
