Learn how to use the Stories page to measure Instagram Story performance, including how to:

  • Access your Instagram Stories in Profile Analytics

  • View reach, impressions, replies, exits, taps forward and back, and completion rate

  • Filter and search by day or format

  • Export Story data for reporting or analysis

Overview

The Stories page shows how people interacted with each Instagram Story. You can see which ones held attention, where viewers dropped off, and how many watched through to the end.

It’s a fast way to assess what’s working in your short, time-sensitive content, and spot patterns that help improve future Stories.

How to Use Stories

To open Stories:

  1. Go to Profile Analytics

  2. Select your Instagram account

  3. Click Stories in the left-hand menu

Each row in the table represents one Story post. You’ll see key metrics like reach, replies, exits, taps, and completion rate to help you analyze what’s driving engagement—or drop-off.

What You’ll See on the Page

Each row represents one Instagram Story slide from the selected time period. You’ll see:

  • Caption: The text from the Story, if any

  • Reach: Unique viewers who saw the Story

  • Impressions: Total views, including repeat views

  • Replies: Direct responses sent via Story

  • Exits: How many people swiped away or left Stories after viewing this one

  • Taps Forward / Back: Navigation behavior showing what was skipped or rewatched

  • Completion Rate: % of viewers who watched this Story to the end

  • Date: When the Story was posted

Key insights to look for

  • High tap-forwards: Viewers may be skipping ahead too quickly. Check if the message is too long or the content isn’t landing.

  • Low exits: A sign that the Story held attention. Note what style, length, or tone might’ve contributed.

  • Replies: When people take the time to respond, it usually means the content struck a chord.

  • Tap-backs: If viewers went backward, it could mean curiosity—or that something needed a second look.

  • Completion rate trends: Higher completion rates can show which types of Stories keep people watching all the way through.

What You Can Do with Stories

  • Search Stories: Use the search bar to locate posts by keyword or caption text

  • Filter Stories: Filter by post day, time, or type to find patterns in performance

  • Export Your Data: Download your filtered view for reporting or internal analysis
